Volunteers, staff at Seattle Animal Shelter work together to save abused dog

(Full Disclosure – I’m a volunteer at the Seattle Animal Shelter)

Q13 posted an excellent story documenting how volunteers and staff at the Seattle Animal Shelter worked together to save a dog on the verge of starving to death.

Last November, construction workers found a pit bull puppy trapped on a balcony during a frigid cold snap with no food or water.

They alerted the Shelter, which picked up the puppy staff named Decker.

Years ago, Decker may have been euthanized because we was in such horrible condition and needed much more specialized attention than the Shelter staff could give him.

But now, thanks to both the Shelter staff and volunteers, Decker not only recovered, he thrived, and he found a permanent home with a loving family who named him Wonder.

Seattle Animal Shelter’s volunteer program represents a new paradigm where Shelter staff and volunteers work in tandem to evaluate and work with each individual dog to ensure it has the best opportunity to find a home. That’s why the shelter now saves more than 90% of the dogs it take in.

Thanks to Q13 Fox for following this story to show how Shelter staff and volunteers worked together to save Wonder and find him a permanent home.

I am so happy that this was a happy ending for Wonder. I can’t even begin to understand his first owner abandoning him to die, but thank God for all of the ones who helped him.

We just adopted a dog on April 23rd who was brought into the local shelter severely starved, weak, scared and puppies in tow. Puppies? Yes, there really are people with no hearts out in the world. How could anyone do this to a dog. After getting the care she needed, she came into our lives. I saw her face and it was love at first sight. We are not Foster parents but her forever parents. She is the sweetest dog and is getting the life she deserves, so this not so happy story which happens to often has a very happy ending. Kuddos to everyone who helped Wonder. And extra kuddos to her Forever family!
