Several dog lovers will be outside Century Link Field today protesting the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to put dog abuser Michael Vick on its roster.
The team signed Vick as the team’s second string quarterback.
In case you aren’t familiar with Vick, he funded a particularly cruel dog fighting operation on his property in Virginia. Eyewitnesses have said Vick actively participated in the dog fighting activities, including electrocuting, drowning, and beating dog to death. Witnesses also saw him throw his family’s pets into dog fighting rings where vicious dogs killed them.
Vick did serve jail time, but he was never convicted of animal cruelty. Instead he took a plea bargain in which he pled guilty to bankrolling a dog fighter operation.
The group, No More Vicktims – Seattle Animal Lovers Against Mike Vick, said all dog lovers are invited to participate in the protest regardless if you’re a Seahawks or Steelers fan.
The group asked pit bull owners to bring their dogs with a sign that says “No More Vicktims.”
People with other breeds and mutts can also join. Organizers encourage them to bring signs showing support for “their pit bull friends.”
The protest starts at 10:30 AM in Pioneer Square Park at the corner of First Ave. and Yesler Way near the stadium. The protest will end sometime after the game begins starts about 1:30 PM.
Thanks to these dedicated activists that refuse to let the public forget about this detestable dog abuser and dog fight promoter.
Pat Rawlins says
Wish I could attend–thank you for standing up for animal safety! [I can’t believe the Court allowed “his kids” to have a dog!]
sisi says
He paid for his crime already. The guy in this photo just want 15 seconds of fame. You’re condemned for your crimes just once. Give me a break.
Seattle DogSpot says
He didn’t go to jail for killing dogs. He went for staging dog fights.
Valhalla rescue says
He was never convicted of any animal related charges or even of dog fighting. Because of that he still allowed to own animals and could very well be fighting them again or bankrolling other operations like he did before. His argument was that it’s a cultural thing and he should be allowed to pursue it. He also got out of pain many of his fines with his attorney arguing that he was broke at the time because he wasnt working at the time he was on trial. Also as a whole, we need people to understand the dog fighting is not something that you can just be charged with and then forgiven and allowed to go right back to doing it again. Research has shown that those who put such low value on animals also would abuse women and children too.
Lastly OVERALL the NFL needs to quit supporting the rapist, abusers, and other felons they continue to make excuses for. These are not the people we want our children to grow up to emulate and the players need to be held accountable for their actions and realize like in the private sector, you commit a crime of violence and your job and lifestyle and standing in the community will suffer the consequences.
Kelli says
Michael Vick you are a POS and didn’t get the time you should have. You didn’t get time for your cruel acts of violence against these babies. You don’t deserve fame. You deserve prison for the rest of your life. . A life for a life
Marlene R Duncan says
I wish could be there to protest. The Duncan family (including Bruno and Cujo) in
Olalla thank you for being voice for pit bulls and all animals
Michelle says
Honestly, when will people move on? The guy did his time, spends his time speaking out about the very crime he participated and by all accounts is a repentant model citizen. Move on! There are people out there NOW actively abusing animals. Put your energy into that. Not an issue from a decade ago. If people never let you forget the mistakes you made in your 20s where would you be?
Seattle DogSpot says
I know several of the people protesting and they do work to stop people that abuse animals. And he didn’t just make a “mistake.” A mistake is accidentally hitting a dog with your car. He killed dozens of dogs. Some he beat to death. Some he electrocuted by attacking jumper cables to their ears. Some he drowned in a bucket or swimming pool. He threw his children’s pets to his fighting dogs and laughed as they were torn apart. And he was never convicted of animal cruelty. What he did never deserves to be forgotten.
He only spoke out about his crimes because the court ordered it. I haven’t seen anything showing he’s still doing it but if you have a link please send it.

Kim says
You really don’t know the facts. Until you do some research on this POS don’t be ignorant and open your mouth because you really look stupid to people who know the facts.
Justine says
Repentable? Watch his interviews. He says the only thing he regrets is the loss of money and time….not what he did to the dogs. Repenting would be helping to pay for the continuing costs of the dogs that were confiscated from his compound, but he has never done anything to that effect, only what he was court ordered to do.
Joyce says
I would like to know where you got your information that he is speaking to people publicly against dog fighting. Because I’ve yet to see that one. And I am actively fighting against current animal abusers. Also you call methodically murdering dogs a “mistake”? My past “mistakes ” weren’t murdering dogs, or any kind of murder. What he did, please don’t call that a mistake.
Seattle DogSpot says
He did it after he got out of jail, but as I understand it he was required by the court to do it. I haven’t heard of him doing it since then.
Helen says
Prisons are full of people that made mistakes. Anyone with that much rage & lack of conscience should be held accountable the rest of their lives. Would you trust a pedophile that made a mistake & did his time alone with your child or any child for that matter? Michael Vick is not repentant, he simply speaks out to save his paycheck & his ass! Burn in hell Michael Vick! I’d tell him that to his face given the chance!
ellen says
He did his time for bankrolling dog fighting, inter state gambling , and racketeering. He DID NOT do his time for the original charge(s) dog fighting/animal abuse which carried a 60+ year sentence if convicted. If you have the stomach for it read the book “The Lost Dogs
Paul Ferbrache says
He may have but does he donate any of his millions to the ones of whom he abused? No he doesn’t, yes he spoke out on what he did but, why do I waste my breath I will never forget, I can forgive bit not forget
chris fry says
Tell that to the tortured dead animals that went over the rainbow bridge, he isnt sorry he did it, he is only sorry he got caught. If he hadnt would we be having this conversation?? I think not, he would still be at it. No forgiveness this time. We have moved on but he does not get that luxury.
Valhalla rescue says
He had never spoke out against dog fighting or animal abuse as a whole. He did the very minimum required and to this day has not reimbursed any of the organizations that have taken his dog and cared for them. He does no public speaking against dog fighting and has refused, claiming that it is part of the southern culture to fight dogs….
Valhalla rescue says
I’m so happy we were able to attend yesterday. It went very well and there was great discussion amongst those that were there and willing to learn the fat. Many were not aware that he never did time or was convicted of animal abuse or that he did not serve time for that. I was able to show them the comparison between Michael Vick conviction and his sentence as compared to what it happened in Idaho or even with some of the other charges and conviction that have happened here recently. Some people are really starting to see that he got away with murder, literally.
Karen Francschini says
Thanks so much, Seattle. I am a member of Pittsburghers Against Michael Vick. We really appreciate your support. This “man’ cannot leave the National Felon League soon enough.
Nicole ventresca says
Thank u for doing this. I live in CT and if i were closer id have been there.
chuck says
He did his time. Leave him alone.
Why don’t you protest PETA? They steal people’s pets and kill them.
chuck says
And so you know, I do know the facts.
Seattle DogSpot says
He was never convicted of dog fighting so he didn’t do his time for what he did. Personally, I would never forgive someone who killed dozens of dogs in such a cruel and sadistic manner. And how do you know none of the protesters HAVE protested PETA? Most people can protest more than one issue at a time.
ellen says
You are right Chuck, he did his time for bankrolling dog fighting, inter state gambling , and racketeering. He DID NOT do his time for the original charge(s) dog fighting/animal abuse which carried a 60+ year sentence if convicted. If you have the stomach for it read the book “The Lost Dogs”
Marie says
Thank you Seattle for speaking out. I am a member of PAMV in Pittsburgh and we want M Vick gone, period… I wish the NFL would clean up their act and set some higher standards for the players. We are praying that the Steelers do not re-sign Vick – they have lost a lot of fans because of it…
Seattle DogSpot says
Thank you for starting this movement.
lisa haigy says
High five to Seattle!!!!! By the way Michelle. …get your facts straight…
Diana McCafferty Goslin says
Thank you so much Seattle, from a die hard Steeler fan before the Rooney’s destroyed that by signing on a dog fighter are murderer. Never will I be a Steeler fan again. The NFL and the Steeler Organization need to get a moral code…..slamming dogs to the ground and fighting your own family dog is not someone who should be looked up to……Thanks again Seattle and please win this game.
Seattle DogSpot says
Thanks for taking a stand for dogs.
Fanny says
Thank you for being there.

I have made mistakes in the past and still do, but nothing compared to what he has done. I will NEVER forget and forgive. Those dogs lives are worth more than him. I will be cheering for the other team. He is nothing but a POS. If I was there I would be standing in the protest line.
Jan Greye says
How in the hell can you wake up one morning, and decide “I think this will be the day I start murdering and electrocuting dogs” and for good measure I’ll throw my dogs in the mix, to “spice” things up!! Your an Asshole, looser, and a poor excuse for a human!! The only job you qualify for is cleaning cages for Pitbulls, and even that’s too goof
