Seattle Animal Control Officers Save the Day
KING 5 reported that Seattle Animal Control Officers recently had to rescue 3 dogs from dangerously hot cars on the Seattle Waterfront.
Officer Rand Hallman rescued a 6-month old dog inside a car with only one window cracked a few inches. He removed the dog from the car after the temperature inside increased from 90 to 105 degrees within 10 minutes.
Officer Hallman took it to a veterinarian where it spent the night recovering. The car’s driver claimed it the next day and was cited with a $257 ticket.
Officer Mary Ellen Wood also rescued 2 dogs from a car after she measured the temperature to be 98 degrees inside.
Bystanders cheered as an officer from the Seattle Police Department broke a window to rescue the two dogs inside.
“Pets can’t to regulate their body temperature like humans,” said Seattle Animal Shelter’s Don Baxter told KING 5. “They don’t sweat. They have to pant. And when they’re panting they’re taking in the hot air in the vehicle and their temperature continues to increase.”
I’m at a loss how people continue endanger their dogs’ lives by leaving them in what are basically mobile ovens that within minutes can get hot enough to kill their dogs.
Think, people, think!
Thanks to Seattle Animal Control, Seattle PD, and the bystanders who reported the dogs were in danger.
