On September 23rd the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of Dingo Chip Twists “Chicken in the Middle” dog treats because they have the potential to be contaminated with amantadine, an antiviral human drug that’s not approved for use in animal food.United Pet Group, Inc. Cincinnati, OH
The reason we’re just hearing about it now is because the FDA classified the announcement as a Class III recall. That means the company decides whether or not to issue a press release about the recall.
In this case, the company chose to keep quiet.
The FDA said the recalled treats come in 2 different package sizes:
6-pack Best by Date 5/16/2017
16-pack: Best by Date 12/27/2015 and 5/16/2017
United Pet Group, Inc. Cincinnati, OH is the company name on the label.
The company distributed the recalled product in the following states: California, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Apparently the company isn’t offering refunds or saying how you should dispose of the product.
