I heard about Grey Muzzle rescue on Orcas Island several years ago, and I was scheduled to visit it a few years ago, but I had to cancel due to a snowstorm, and I never made another appointment to see it.
After watching this video from TalkItUpTV about the rescue and its founders Thayne and Chris Hamilton, I’m kicking myself for missing the opportunity to see this amazing rescue.
After Chris died in 2013, Thayne carried on her dream of rescuing older dogs and continues to run the Grey Muzzle.
Here’s one thing on the video that best explains the intense dedication they shared for their dogs – after suffering from a serious illness, Chris signed a Do Not Resuscitate order so doctors could not try to revive her if her heart stopped. The reason? She didn’t want to run up excessive hospital bills they couldn’t pay. They would not only lose their home, but more importantly, they would lose their dogs too.

Robert, are you acquainted with him? Do you think he might take one of the remaining OAS dogs–maybe Toby? Or Ralph?
SDogSpot Author says
I’m not but I could contact him. Could you email me their behavior reports?

What a great story. I am a huge lover of animals, dogs being my favorite. This couple has been able to help so many dogs with next to nothing. I am so glad that you are helping him continue the work he and his wife started. It sounds like he will have so much stress taken from him. He looks like a very nice man. I hope some day to be able to meet him.

He did sound extremely nice. He’s one of those people that give off a powerfully positive vibe.
Thayne says
Maybe we should have a chat again huh? Or maybe you’d like to visit?
SDogSpot Author says
Yes, I hope so! Thank you for the fantastic work you do.

What a wonderful place Thayne and Chris created. I’m so happy that he’s now able to continue on with rescuing more dogs. We need more people like him in this world. God bless him.

This is a dream of mine, I admire him and his late wife. I can’t imagine where one finds the money especially if you don’t own land or a house. Hopefully someday. I’m so thankful people like him exist especially in the world we live in today.

Me too.

I just saw the video from Talk it Up TV and of course, was very touched. When asked what I’d do if I ever won the lottery, I always truthfully tell people that I would start an old dog and cat animal sanctuary. Thus, this story touched my heart very strongly. Animal lovers are the best people on earth. May God continue to bless your wonderful rescue sanctuary. If I ever get out that way to visit my grandson I would love to visit with you and meet your precious rescues.

i was very moved by this video. What a great job of helping these unwanted dogs. They needed love and good care, and the Hamilton’s provided this for them.
In what way can we send a donation to help him?
We need an address for his Rescue organization.

You should do to the Grey Muzzle website or Facebook page to see if you can sign up for updates.
