As the Eastern Washington wildfires continue to rage out of control, dozens of people and groups have set up networks to provide food/shelter for lost pets and reunite them with their families.
As the Seattle Times noted last Friday, “volunteers have stepped up to house, feed and comfort displaced pets, horses and the animals — and sometimes, their owners, too.”
Volunteers set up a temporary shelter for pets at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club where they took in “nearly four dozen animals over the past several days, including one ferret.”
The Times also reported that volunteers from the Washington State Animal Response Team (WASART) set up a temporary animal shelter at Brewster Elementary School.
“We’ll have the dogs in the gymnasium, and the cats in a nice, quiet room,” said coordinator Denise Steinkerchner, of Seattle. “The goal is to help both pets and evacuees, many of whom are overwhelmed by loss and uncertainty. The animals are stressed out, too.”
With so many people trying to rescue pets and reunite them with their families, a ton of information is available regarding their rescue efforts and what people can do to help.
