Who wants to go exploring with me today.
There is a nice, almost 3 mile, trail around Heart Lake in the Anacortes Forest lane. This hike is one of my favorite for the big, old trees we pass through, but there is a way to connect Heart Lake to Cranberry Lake, another small hike in the area, and i want to try to see if i can do it.

Although, not particulary difficult, the trail can be narrow, rocky, and rooty in places. Wear appropriate footwear, bring plenty of water, a snack or two for yourself as well as your dog. Please plan on staying with the group for the duration of the hike, as this is not a simple out and back hike.
Masks must be worn by those humans that haven’t been fully vaccinated for covid 19, and leashes need to be on all dogs. Scoop the poop and dispose of properly.
Meet at the main parking lot for heart lake, there is a privy at this trailhead.
No Passes or Permits required.
Getting There
From I-5, take Exit 230 for Highway 20 and head west for 10 miles, then turn left to stay on Highway 20. Staying straight on the Highway 20 Spur takes you into the city of Anacortes.
Turn right onto Campbell Lake Road and drive about one and a half miles along the lake. Turn right onto Heart Lake Road–note that the sign for this turn can be hard to read, so look for the Mount Erie Grocery and take the road to the right of the store.
Less than a mile from the grocery store, pass the parking lot for Mount Erie and Sugarloaf on your right. Within a quarter mile, the parking lot for Heart Lake is on your left–turn into the large graveled lot and pick a spot!
