Pet Store Sold Sick Puppies
I recently learned about some folks in Kitsap County organizing a demonstration this weekend to get a Silverdale pet store called Farmland Pets to stop selling puppies from a puppy mill called BJ & Guys in Menlo, KS.
Terry Stucker, one of the people organizing the protest, told me the goal of the demonstration is “consumer education/awareness.”
He said they plan to give handouts showing how to access a USDA report from last March saying that BJ & Guys had 755 adult dogs and 426 puppies on their site.
He also said that while some people have had “no problem” with the puppies they bought from Farmland; however, others bought “unhealthy” puppies that caused both a financial and emotional burden” on them.
He acknowledged that while Farmland was not breaking any laws by selling the puppies, the practice is still “inhumane.”
Demonstration Goal: Educate Public
He noted that the goal of the protest is not to close Farmland, but to “educate the public.”
I fully support this group’s effort to educate people about the problems associated with adopting dogs from puppy mills.
Puppy mills produce/sell puppies with little or no regard for the health of the puppies or the dogs they breed.
The dogs rarely, if ever, get out of their cages. Some breeding dogs spend their whole lives in them.
In my opinion, nobody can properly care for over 1000 dogs and puppies without a virtual army of volunteers.
If you aren’t familiar about puppy mills, go to the website for the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
The demonstration will be from 11:30 to 1:30 this Saturday at the corner of Byron St. & Silverdale Way in Silverdale.

Please stop selling dogs/puppies for breeders. It leads to all kinds of harm to the animals, surely that is not your intention. End this exploitation of animals, please.

Farmland and all other retail outlets that have puppy mill puppies are NOT adopting them out, they are selling them for profit!!!
Yes, there is a huge difference!

The Farmland Pet and Feed store in silverdale, Wa is absolutely the worst pet store I have ever been to. I have lived in many different states and seen many pet stores. This store has the worst costumer service I have encountered in many years, I was in their store to find a harness for my pet, I got no help at all and then the lady at the register was incredibly rude as I was buying a product from her store ( or at least where she works for a paycheck). I also went to check out the pets. There were many animals in small crates in a tiny room where it was extremely hot, humid, & smelled horrific, I had a hard time breathing. I can’t believe they are allowed to keep these pets in these terrible conditions. I felt terrible for them and finally understood why a friend of mine had such a terrible experience with a puppy they bought here. Their sweet puppy almost died (eventhough their puppy had “all her shots” needed) and they spent a fortune to keep her alive. They were heartbroken to go through this.

Thanks for letting us know about your experience there. If people stopped buying them they’d stop selling them.

Just got a puppy from there with Giardia. Brought it home and it infected my other dog. If you simply google the supplier Farmland uses you can see they have LOADS of USDA violations and anyone who does business with them is absolutely NOT a good person. I understand you are friends with these people but the facts are readily available.

We got a puppy there last June. We haven’t had any problems. Farmland is a family place. It smells because its a pet store. And someone said these puppy’s look like there from a puppy mill. Puppys look like There heathley puppys, Well I did my research before spending the money on our dog we got last year. The better busnesse bureau gave them an a+ there good people at farmland. And we love our dog. We are getting another puppy in April. I think people need to really stop and listen to them self’s bashing a pet store. Before they know the truth. Also these dogs are never there long enough.people are buying them. We come there almost very sat. Puppy’s are selling. We live and work here in Bremerton. We’ve been here for 20 years. Its a good place. I trust farmland pets.
Jared says
apparently you didn’t do any research on where the dogs come from because I was able to find out they ARE 100% getting dogs from puppy mills in less than 5 min on google.

I’m totally for this article, but I think some wording should be changed. A person doesn’t adopt a dog from a puppy mill, they are buying. Sorry I’m not a fan of when breeders or stores say to adopt a dog. From a rescue, or shelter, adopting would be the right lingo. But not this scenario.
Christine Purbaugh says
I much prefer to Adopt a pet from a rescue like Kitsap Humane Society where I know that pet actually was looked at by a Vetinarian to verify that the animal was healtty enough to be adopted. I couldn’t in good conscious buy a dog from Farmland knowing that dog came from a puppymill! Adopt don’t shop!

Excellent advice thank you!

When my AKC Dixie had puppies, Farmland sold them for me. I’m definitely not a puppy mill. Watch out that your not guilty of slander.

I’m glad you had a good experience. Unfortunately others did not.
