Freedom for More Chained Dogs!
Fences For Fido and South Sound Freedom Fences recently announced they will work together by building fences free of charge for families in SW Washington who keep their dogs outdoors on chains, tethers, and in small enclosed spaces.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) awarded Fences For Fido a $15,000 grant to build fences in anticipation of the passage of the state’s first anti-tethering law.
Both nonprofit groups serve limited regions. Fences For Fido builds fences in Central and Northwest Oregon as well as deep southwest Washington. South Sound Freedom Fences serves the greater Tacoma area.

The grant allows groups to provide services to qualifying families in Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania, Wahkiakum, Lewis, Pacific, and Klickitat counties.
Better Serving Dogs and Families
Fences For Fido co-founder Kelly Peterson said the funding will allow the organization to better serve dogs and their families.
“This generous grant will enable us to make a huge impact in the lives of chained dogs and the people who love them,” Preston said.
South Sound Freedom Fences founder Taryn Major said the group has a backlog of about 3 dozen requests for fences.
The two groups will hold an informational meeting for people interested in volunteering.
The event will be on Saturday, April 29th at the Chehalis Timberland Library, 419 North Market Blvd., at 2:00 p.m.
The public is invited to attend and no fence-building experience is necessary, just a willing heart and love for canines.
Families with chained or tethered dogs, or concerned citizens who are aware of a chained dog in the counties served can fill out a fence request at www.fencesforfido.org.
Here’s a video of the group receiving the Sam Simon Award from actress Hillary Swank on last year. It gives the award to organizations making a significant difference for people and their canine companions.
