Hannah the Pet Society Euthanized Adoptable Dogs The former owner of an 11-month-old puppy named Kelso leased from Hannah the Pet Society confirmed the puppy was not aggressive and is "shocked" to learn he was euthanized. Last month I reported that Hannah euthanized three adoptable puppies, one of which was Kelso. After learning the puppy she returned was one of the three dogs that Hannah killed, she posted this statement on Facebook: Ironically, Hannah still makes money on the dead puppy. Ms. Harris-Gomez sends it $100 per month to pay the $600 fee Hannah charged her for returning Continue Reading

Washington Pet Stores Are Leasing Puppies
Monthly Payments for a Puppy You Don't Own Recently I learned that two western Washington pet stores offer customers the opportunity to lease/rent puppies instead of buying them. Puppyland in Puyallap and Farmland Pets in Silverdale offer a "financing" option for customers who can't afford to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for a purebred puppy in one all at once. Neither store tries to conceal their puppy leasing programs. They use them as a marketing tools to convince people who may not have enough available cash that they can still afford a puppy. But you won't see the words Continue Reading
Evidence Shows Oregon Pet Leasing Company Misled Customers, Bought Dogs from Breeders
Pet Leasing Company Deceived Customers The Portland Tribune reported yesterday that an Oregon Department of Justice (ODJ) investigation into Hannah the Pet Society revealed the company engaged in deceptive practices. The Tribune said this evidence was revealed during an ODJ investigation into "substantial evidence that the firm misled customers, provided substandard veterinary care, and set up a fraudulent nonprofit to conceal a long-standing practice of buying dogs from commercial breeders, not shelters as the company had long claimed." If you aren’t familiar with Hannah’s original pet Continue Reading

Pet Leasing Company Treats Dogs Like Expendable Products KGW in Portland reported Wednesday that former employees of the pet leasing company Hannah the Pet Society said the company provides substandard veterinary care and euthanizes adoptable dogs. Earlier this year, Seattle DogSpot broke the story that Hannah euthanized 3 adoptable dogs rather than offer them back to the shelters they came from or provide the care/support that they needed to be adopted. In case you haven't heard of Hannah the Pet Society, it was founded in 2010 as a pet leasing company. Here's how the original model Continue Reading

If you aren't familiar with Hannah's original pet leasing model, here's how it worked: Hannah used its pet matching service to find a pet for you based on information you provided. Portland TV Station Confirms Pet Leasing Company Euthanized 3 Adoptable Dogs
KGW TV ran a story tonight confirming that a pet leasing company in Portland euthanized 3 adoptable dogs last November. Last week I wrote that Hannah the Pet Society euthanized these dogs under the direct order of company founder Dr. Scott Campbell because he said they were "aggressive." However, none of the adopters returned their dogs due to aggression problems. And none the behavior assessments conducted by Hannah employees on the dogs mentioned they showed any aggressive behavior. The Columbia Humane Society sent two of the dogs to Hannah. The organization issued this statement to KGW Continue Reading
Oregon Pet Rental Company Euthanizes 3 Adoptable Dogs
Pet Rental Company Needlessly Kills 3 Dogs A little over a month ago I saw this Facebook post from Tender Care Animal Rescue in Vancouver, WA: "Two weeks ago Hannah the Pet Society euthanized 3 shelter dogs - Pip, Charlie Bear and Kelso. Rather than offer them back to the shelters they came from or provide the support that they needed to rehabilitate them, Hannah chose to kill them. We're sending this information to as many shelters as possible to get the word out. These may have been dogs that they received from you. I know that you work hard to save as many animals as possible. Continue Reading
