After waiting for a service dog for 2 years, Army veteran Miguel Torres was surprised Sunday when the NY Giants and Guardians of Rescue presented him with a German shepherd named Stryker during Giants’ game as part of the NFL’s Salute to Service program and the Guardians of Rescue’s Paws of War initiative.
“Many veterans of war suffer from PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,” said US Army Corporal John Walis, who served in Afghanistan and spearheads the Paws of War Program. “It can have emotionally paralyzing effects. Daily living can become difficult and often be filled with feelings of paranoia and fear.”
Based on their initial meeting, it looks like they will be perfect for each other.
