Staff Sgt. Julian McDonald’s commitment to the military combat dog Layka that saved is life was unwavering.
Layka was shot four times by the enemy at point-blank range while serving in Afghanistan. Despite her injuries, she still attacked and subdued the shooter, saving her handler and the other members of the team. She survived after a 7-hour surgery. She also had one of her legs amputated.
She now lives with Sgt. McDonald, who refused to give up on his quest to adopt her and give her the home she deserved.
