KOMO News reported that two recents dog attacks in Kirkland’s Kingsgate Park may be related. The most recent attack occurred last Friday when an off leash dog attacked and killed a small Papillion named Lulu last Friday.
One of Lulu’s owners said the incident happened when they encountered two large off leash dogs he described as “a boxer or Rhodesian ridgeback mix and a malamute or husky mix.”
He said that he picked up Lulu as the dogs approached because their owner said “my dogs are running around and they might trample her, they’re just big dogs, but you don’t need to worry about it”; however, the husky/malamute then jumped up and tore Lulu from his arms.
The dog shook and bit Lulu before the owner managed to pull her away. He rushed her to a veterinarian but she died due to the severity of her injuries.
He said the woman who owned the dogs “said little, and didn’t help him pull her dogs away” from Lulu. He didn’t have time get her name.
His wife posted the descriptions of the woman and her dogs on Facebook to see if someone could identify her. That caught the attention of another woman who told KOMO that dogs fitting the descriptions of the ones that attacked Lulu also attacked her three-year-old Corgi.
The dog suffered seven puncture wounds and a broken pelvis. The owner said the “middle-aged couple” did nothing to help and walked away while she helped her injured dog.
Kirkland police told KOMO they have found the dog that killed Lulu and forwarded the case to King County Animal Control. Both agencies said they will investigate whether or not the two attacks are connected.
