Is pet spending recession-proof? A new survey says it is.
According to the survey, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin.com, 75% of pet owners said "the state of the economy doesn't affect how much money they spend on their pets."
Kimberly Gauthier, author of the blog Keep the Tail Wagging (and advertiser on Seattle DogSpot), recently brought a foster puppy into her home. After spending several hours trying to tire out her puppy yesterday, she posted a video telling people how much work adopting a new puppy entails.
I meant to share this guest post from pet lifestyle expert Sandy Robertson Earth Day, which was last Sunday, but the message is still relevant - you can reduce your dog's carbon "pawprint" and help green the planet.
Sandy was also on New Day NW earlier this month to talk about eco-friendly pet products. Local rescue group Motley Zoo was there as well with some dogs looking for forever homes. The video is at the end of this post.
KIRO-TV reported that two weeks ago, Jesse Wise's 6-month-old collie named Bailey broke her hind legs after jumping/falling off a large concrete stature at Regerade Park in downtown Seattle.
The Today Show's Natalie Morales fell big time for a shelter dog named Zara that was on the show about 6 months ago, and the next day, she adopted Zara. Morales said she had an "instant connection" with Zara, and the dog quickly "stole her heart."
I know that people shouldn't adopt a dog on the spur of the moment, but Morales grew up with dogs, and in the video she appears to be a good mom for Zara.
Several news outlets reported today that Washingtonstate troopers cited a motorcyclist for driving several miles with his dog on the back of his bike with no harness. The trooper noticed the pair while driving on Highway 3 in Kitsap County.
According to the trooper'sTwitter account, the driver got a ticket and the dog received a "verbal warning." The trooper said the stunt is not only unsafe, but illegal.
Like me, you probably didn't know that the first week in April is International Pooper Sooper Week. Well, it is, and it was created by the Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists (aPaws)to educate pet owners on the importance of cleaning up after their dogs.
CBS Atlanta recently aired a story noting that the practice of "dog flipping" is on the rise. I hadn't heard about this despicable practice until recently. It's similar to house flipping when home prices were skyrocketing (remember those days?) when people made money by buying an old house, fixing it up, and selling it for a profit.
